Fairs of Yesteryear
December 10, 2000 - June 24, 2001
Main Floor Gallery, MSU Museum
Turn-of-the century paintings and posters (1880 - 1920) illustrate the story of America's fairs.
What is American about America's fairs? Fairs changed from a marketplace to an educational institution improving the nation by strengthening its primary domestic manufacture -- agriculture.
The Fair Publishing House, Inc. Collection provides a wonderful window in time to remind us of America's early fairs and their impact as community building and educational institutions. Historic photographs depict the fair experience in Michigan and the Midwest.
