Niqab

I have seen the way flowers look at night.
The way small cupped petals perch upward
on thin gray stems
and sway as the night moves
in that way it moves
without anyone really noticing.
I have seen the way flowers look at night.
Black and curled
like toes
or the arched spines of cats.
Folding like swarming tides,
or cloaked brows,
or dark skin creasing with worry.
