Morning Star Quilt, c. 1996. 78 x 79 inches. Lakota Sioux quiltmaker Lula Red Cloud from the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota makes quilts in star patterns for ceremonial uses as well as quilts in other patterns for other uses. The vibrant colors she prefers carry meaning; in this "Morning Star Quilt", they refer to colors of the morning sun, the earth, and the sky.
