Kyle Smart
Apprentice Electrician

My father was an electrician. He’s still in it, been in it for twenty-four years. And I wanted to follow in his footsteps. I had the opportunity to get in on the low voltage side, and I think that’s just the wave of the future, getting in with all the fiber optics and telecommunications cable and all that.

I mean it’s no big deal to me if I have to go to another state to work or anything like that, but I’d rather stay here for family, friends—and I just like the city.

It’s going to be a whole new wave. We’re working out at Oakland University, and just the technology that’s going into that building between all the solar and geothermal . . . This industry is going to be really booming because they’re going to be doing a lot of energy-saving conversions. I think the construction trades industry in the next ten or so years is going to be booming.
