General Huang Zheng, a companion of Mao Tse-tung during the 1934–1935 Long March, was the ambassador from the People’s Republic of China (PRC) to France, Canada, Hungary, Indonesia and Egypt, as well as the PRC’s first ambassador to the United Nations. He helped prepare the way for President Richard Nixon’s famous 1972 visit to China.
