Ayemwe atsale adzamange

The name means, “Whoever is left, let him build”, and derives from the fears in the village of impacts of HIV/AIDS on the community – if everyone dies, who will rebuild the village? The character appeared in the 1990s, to commemorate the life of an elderly woman teacher of girls (a namkungwi). By adherence to the moral code or mwambo, people can still live long lives. For those who stray from the code, death awaits in the form of AIDS and other diseases.
