Chikhukhu

This is one of the small group of masks danced by women at the time of instruction for girls’ initiation. Chikhukhu tells of the discomfort experienced by women after childbirth, and that recovery is dependent on adhering to proper sexual taboos. The women’s masks of girls’ initiation all deal with aspects of marriage, birth and feminine hygiene.
