Chimbano is half bull and half crocodile. He manifests the powers of the village chief to convey fertility to girls who are being initiated into womanhood. These powers of fertility stem from the ancestors, so the chief is a link between the living and the dead. Some versions of Chimbano can graphically depict male and female sexual organs on the face of the mask.
