Thunga

Thunga is the python of God. In ancient Chewa beliefs, Thunga (embodied by a priest) would have ritualistic sexual relations with the spirit wife Mwali, in order for the next season’s rains to come. Thunga represents fertility – of the land after rains, and in the village through the children that will be born when food is in good supply.
