Donor Jerre Reese explains her connection to the quilt's maker:

Ellen Culhane adopted her sister's child upon her sister's
death and that child became my father's stepmother, but I barely knew
her. I do know that she had many beautiful objects in her home and
a lot of jewelry that she inherited from the aunt that raised her.
They must have been quite well off -- the aunt had three different
homes that she spent various parts of the year in. |
