Notes on Betty's [Harriman] pattern indicate this
to be a Krockman Family pattern, but provenance is unknown.
It is not known whether York County, PA or York County, VA is
commemorated in this quilt pattern. Both regions are historically
important: fearing capture by Howe's army, the Continental Congress
left Philadelphia and held sessions in York County PA from September
1777 until June 1778; it was therefore once the Capitol of the
Republic. And Yorktown, the county seat of York county, VA has
figured prominently in American history Cornwallis surrendered
on October 18, 1781, ending the Revolutionary War, and independence
for the New Republic was assured. |
