Each of the nine panels in this quilt block is framed with crazy quilt-style
embroidery stitches and features a scene or inscription embellished with
a combination of appliquéd fabrics and embroidery stitches. The
cross-stitched inscriptions read “Catharine Weber, Morenci, 1914,
Age 40” and “to Louise F. Borton, March 9, 1914.” Images
on the panels include a horse and carriage with man, a woman with staff
next to tree with birds, a lamb, a strawberry plant with berries, flowers,
and a man and woman holding hands, and chickens, a cow and calf next to
a tree. The clothing on the figures reflects that of the quilt’s
era.
