Kitty Clark Cole loves patriotic quilts and this one purchased from Shelly
Zegart is one of many she collected. The date of this quilt is based on
the inclusion of the Cuban flag among the thirteen-star American flags.
After the U.S. battleship "Maine" was sunk in the Bay of Havana
on February 15, 1898 the United States entered the war between Spain and
Cuba for Cuba's independence. After the war the United States governed
Cuba from 1899-1902.
