Dear Vera,
This cradle quilt was given to great grandmother Margaret Skillman
Clayton in the year of our Lord 1826 - from her aunt Betsy Kachaugh
who lived at that time in Harlingen, New Jersey.
You notice that this quilt is not pieced but appliqued.
Your great-grandma was born in Middlebush, New Jersey March
22, 1803. Was buried in Plymouth, Michigan on her 91st birthday.
(1894 in pencil).
The above was written by your granma (Alice Van Arsdale in pencil)
A.V.A. Frazer (Dot Frazer's - great great grandma in pencil)
Jan. 15, 1914 in her 84th year. Written in the Kinder house
- Federalsburg, Md.
Your mother sits here sewing. |
