A note was pinned to the quilt when it was purchased by Mary Bunto in 1984 from the estate of Mrs. Blakeney of Birmingham, Michigan. The note reads:
	Made by Catherine Ashley Wayne, New York c. 1835. Miss Ashley was a great-great-grandmother of Jeanne Blakeney and a sister-in-law of the second mayor of Detroit.
The second mayor of Detroit was Henry J. Hunt, 1826.
