virtual fundraising quilt!

Watch the quilt grow in cyberspace!
About this quilt...
The design of this cyberspace quilt is based on the Churn
Dash quilt made by Martha Marian Lovina Hoskins Spencer, in 1893 in
the collection of Michigan State University Museum.
About the tradition of quilts and fundraising...
For decades, individuals (mostly women) have raised funds for worthwhile
causes through selling, raffling or auctioning off whole quilts. Women
have also made subscription quilts, whereby individuals pay a sum of money
for the privilege of having their name inked or embroidered on to a quilt
square.

The names of all donors are visible on the quilt within their respective quilt blocks.
Coming soon! A legend for finding your quilt block.
About our worthwhile
cause...
Expanding, caring for, and using the collections all demand substantial
financial support. While Michigan State University provides the basic
space and utilities for the collections, the majority of the additional
costs must be raised through grants and donations. The generous support
of individuals and organizations are critical to the quilt collection
maintenance and the center's activities.
