Meghan McCartney Scott, Sarah Horan, and Catherine Russell
2017 master artist and apprentice
East Lansing, Okemos, and Williamston (Ingham County)
Traditional Irish hard shoe dance

Meghan McCartney Scott has been dancing since she was eight years old. She began dancing and competing at the Heinzman School of Irish Dance at the age of thirteen, and went on to become open champion. She has experience with Appalachian, Irish, Ottawa Valley and Quebecois percussive dance traditions. With seventeen years of teaching experience under her belt, she opened McCartney Irish Dance in 2015, and currently has over 70 students. Meghan received her Teagascóir Choimisiúin le Rinci Gaelacha (Commission Certified Irish Dance Teacher) certification through An Coimisiun le Rinci Gaelacha in 2016, making her one of fewer than thirty teachers in the United States with this credential. This is the highest honor for Irish dance instructors and involves showing proficiency in specific dances, correctly identifying dance tunes, and completing a written examination. Meghan will instruct her two apprentices in seven traditional hard shoe set dances.

Through learning more about Irish dance, both Sarah Horan and Catherine Russell are able to connect with their own Irish heritage. Sarah has been working with Meghan since 2011. She attends weekly classes and assist with classes for some of the younger students. Catherine is an experienced dancer in many genres, and has been learning from Meghan for two years.
