Delayne is the first MSU student to participate in the new MSU Museum’s Excellence in Museum Practice Internship program. This internship offers opportunities for students to explore different careers in museums and gain professional experience. Delayne will spend the first half of the semester exploring different areas of the museum, for example, natural science collections, cultural collections, education, exhibition design, and communication. The second half of the semester she will complete a project within the specific area that meets a real-world need.

Where are you from? I am from Michigan, mostly the northern part and I spent some time living in the Upper Peninsula and Indiana.
What is your major and academic year? I am a third-year student with a History major and a Women’s and Gender Studies minor.
What interested you in working at the MSU Museum? I would like to work in museums someday as a career, so working at the MSU Museum seemed like the perfect opportunity to advance my knowledge and skill set in relation to working in cultural facilities. I was very fortunate to enter into an internship position which is very flexible and offers a variety of working experience in different positions within the MSU Museum.
What is your favorite part of your internship? My favorite part of my internship is the variety. My position makes it possible for me to explore all sides of the museum and gives me the unique opportunity to gain experience in all museum departments. This experience has given me the opportunity to be very flexible and adaptable to many situations, which will be a great help to future career endeavors.
What do you do in your free time? I spend much of my free time reading, I have accumulated quite an array of books over the years and my favorite books to read are historical fiction and biographies. When I am not reading I am often traveling to new places or spending quality time with my pets and family.
What is your dream job? My dream job is to become a museum director. I love all different parts of museum functions from curatorial to visitor services, so having a job where I can have my hand in a bit of everything would be ideal.
