MSU Museum Seeks Docents for Education, Visitor Services

The MSU Museum is recruiting docents to help visitors get the most out of their visits. Docents greet groups, conduct tours, and lead educational activities that add to the visitor experience and increase awareness of collections and exhibitions.

Docents at the MSU Museum

Successful docents should be enthusiastic, flexible, curious and able to work with visitors to encourage interactive discovery. While docents do not receive financial compensation, they are offered continuing education and educational opportunities. MSU student participation in the docent program can be recognized with academic credits.

Before working with visitors, docents will participate in four training sessions on Tuesdays on November 6, 13, 20, 27 from 5:30 – 7:30 pm. They will learn about the Museum’s collections, educational methods and best practices, visitor services, and tour techniques. Prior experience is not required. When training is complete, the docents are asked to invest a minimum of one year of service with the docent program.

Prospective docents should contact the MSU Museum education office at (517) 432-1472 or museumed@msu.edu. Visit the Museum website and download a docent application.
